This role joins the student success team, which works closely with faculty, administrators and families to support our students' learning and emotional health. RESPONSIBILITIES

The Learning Support Specialist at Avenues supports and fosters the mental health and learning skills of students in the primary division. The specialist counsels individual students and groups, and works in close partnership with the teachers, and speech/language therapists, administrators and parents as a member of the Student Success Team. This includes conducting observations, consulting with teachers and families, creating behavior plans, making referrals to and managing outside providers, joining student conferences and supporting crisis management. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Professional experience with socio-emotional and learning needs of students
  • Deep expertise in mental health and development of children ages 2-8
  • Very strong clinical skills, to identify, evaluate and provide services to students with a range of mental health needs
  • Experience with neuropsychological evaluations and developing appropriate recommendations and action plans 
  • Very collaborative, adept at working with diverse teams to support students 
  • A strong sense of personal responsibility for the success of every student
